Next Up: Several Cowboys Eliminated, Playoffs Nearing End
Oklahoma wrapped up its state playoffs and Texas moves on to Round 4. Let’s take a look at the future Pokes who were eliminated and which are moving on.
Spencer Sanders, Quarterback
Denton Ryan breezed to a 49-28 win over Lubbock Monterey last week in what has been their biggest challenge of these playoffs. Sanders tossed five touchdowns and 267 yards through the air and added 45 yards rushing on 10 carries. Sanders’ services were not needed in the second half as the Raiders rolled. Denton Ryan will take on a high-powered Lubbock Coronado offense that put up 80 points in an upset of Colleyville Heritage last week.
Also, would not be opposed to bringing Gab Douglas to Stilly as well. ?
@Coach_Yurcich any chance you can bring @gabrildouglas to Stillwater with @SpenceSanders ?

CJ Moore, Wide Receiver
Moore’s high school career came to a close with a heartbreaking 21-14 state championship loss to Owasso. Moore now heads to Stillwater with high expectations and big shoes to fill.

Jonathon Shepherd, Wide Receiver
Kilgore lost to Henderson 20-14 last week after Henderson scored a go-ahead touchdown with nine seconds left. The end of Shepherd’s high school career comes just after a visit last week from Kasey Dunn.
Great time with my future coach during his visit to the house??#GoPokes pic.twitter.com/9UPKMdMqkn

Gabe Lemons, Athlete
The theme for future Cowboys this week is heartbreak. Moore lost a state championship by a touchdown and Shepherd’s team fell with little time left. Lemons, however, might have endured the worst of them all. Coppell was defeated last week by Round Rock Cedar Ridge 35-34 after the Cowboys missed an extra point in overtime. Lemons had two catches for 47 yards in his final high school game.
Tyler Lacy, Defensive End
Sachse staged a furious 4th quarter comeback scoring 21 unanswered after being down by 28 to start the final period, but fell to Pflugerville Hendrickson 42-35. Lacy’s undefeated season and high school career come to an end as the big defensive end heads up to Stillwater.
Jayveon Cardwell, Cornerback
Thankfully for Cardwell, he did not suffer the same fate as most of his future teammates. His Steele Knights beat Weslaco East 36-21 to advance to a huge 4th round matchup with Austin Westlake. Cardwell had one tackle and one pass deflection in the win.
