Notebook: Cowboys Getting Amped Days Before Spring Game

Published

on

At every spring practice I’ve been to, the theme has been fun. Not Wednesday. Well, let me establish. The first 15 minutes or so were fun. Everything after that was about as intense as spring practices come.

Here’s the rundown:

• The Cowboys got to the Sherman E. Smith Training Center about 2:20 p.m.

• Headlined by Ramon Richards, Trey Carter and Tre Flowers, several Cowboys, mostly defensive guys, grabbed a football and a pair of filled trashcans and started playing a game of trashketball. I guess they didn’t realize it would pretty difficult to score on a trash can that was already filled.

• After Mason Rudolph spoke and the media moved to Mike Yurcich, Rudolph creeped behind to listen in on what his offensive coordinator was saying about him which was pretty funny.

• See 20 seconds in below.

• Later, when I was talking with Tre Flowers, Chad Whitener sneaked behind him. Apparently everyone wants to know what’s being said about them. I propose they just come to PFB to find out later on.

• After Gundy got to practice, there was no talk of rattlesnake hunts, singlets or “Big Daddy” mugs. It was exclusively football.

• When the media broke from Gundy’s interview and started watching practice, all the reporters saw was a swarm of focus.

• Every position group was challenged at the highest level. Coaches were barking. Players were really buzzing around. It was intense and good.

• There aren’t any fun videos this week because frankly there wasn’t a lot of fun. That makes sense though. The Cowboys’ Spring Game starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.
