Notebook: Ole Miss-Oklahoma State
I posted my 10 thoughts here, but I have to empty my final notebook of the season. It’s shorter than most.
• Brent Musberger throwing it to Bob Wischusen and butchering his name worse than my two-year-old would sort of epitomized the New Year’s Six games.
• Sorry I didn’t tweet in the hour leading up to the game. I was unconscious for a while after I saw the uniforms Ole Miss was wearing. Sweet mercy.
• Speaking of, is this a safe place to admit I would rock one of those baby blue Ole Miss hoodies so hard? I hope it is.
• Chris Carson reminds me of a SEC running back. Plodding and fairly athletic. He’d look above average behind a decent line.
• On a scale of one to the OU band playing Boomer Sooner, where does Ole Miss’ fans doing the Landshark sign rank on your annoyance scale? It’s pretty high on mine. Like an eight.
• I thought this was great.

• More confession time: I love the offset diamond formation. I wish we used it better, but it looks great.
• Was Mike Gundy calling plays? Is this a question from every game of the Mike Yurcich era?
He's got a big play sheet. That hasn't been the case the rest of the year has it? https://t.co/rMsco9PjAS

• Friday night games, man. Friday night games. They are not a great look for us.
• Do you think Mike Holder asked Mike Gundy to ride his hoverboard back to Stillwater or do you think he let him on the team plane.
• The offensive lineman TD was awesome. It was also offensive for many reasons.
Most offensive thing about the TD wasn’t the pass to an OL, but the blatant “we don’t even care about points, we’re going for it” attitude.

• All the dust.

• This was awesome.

• To the credit of whoever was calling plays: The let Rudolph ride a little bit instead of feeding our RBs. Not that it took a playcalling genius to figure this out.
• Chad Kelly makes Baker Mayfield seem less bro.
• Does Brandon Sheperd have the highest drops-to-hand size ratio in college football history? He has to, right?
• If there was an election for president of New Orleans and Archie Manning ran, what percent of the vote would he get. Would it be higher than Mike Gundy in Stillwater? I think it might be.
• This might be true.
I think Brandon Sheperd has more drops than catches this season.

• This was truer than I care to admit.
#okstate Rudolph doesn't seem bothered by the big stage or the noise, but most of his teammates do.

• This is random but I love the star with the captain “C” on the neck OSU puts on its uniforms for the bowl game.
• Wischusen gets really, really excited for plays near the goal line. I thought my kids were going to wake up at one point during a 35-point game.
• Perspective.
Besides the running game, run defense, pass defense, penalties and drops, OSU has played pretty well tonight.

• At least the rest of the New Year’s Six games were good!
• Sobering quote from one of the broadcasters: “Normally flea flickers don’t work if you have no run game to speak of.”
• It’s crazy that J.W. scored in all 13 games this year. Vegas odds in August had to be, what, 500-1?
• What the heck?

• Excited Jim Kelly is something to behold.
• I’ve alluded to this all season, but I get a little annoyed with the “but J.W. deserves …” stuff. It’s not like Rudolph isn’t doing all the same stuff. I realize No. 4 is the senior and everything, but it seems like Rudolph has gotten shafted all year.
• We beat something tonight!
#okstate OSU's worst bowl loss: 26 points. Ohio State 33-7 in the 2004 Alamo Bowl.
— Bill Haisten ?? (@billhaisten) January 2, 2016
• I hate our final game being reduced to a bunch of, “I’m excited because J.W. scored a TD in a 35-point blowout” tweets.
• I laughed out loud.

• And it wasn’t even close.
Couldn't even muster up a W in the uni battle. Just an all around L for OSU.

• I am on the CBS college football Slack thread for funsies. Earlier on Friday, there was a question in there of whether Northwestern is the worst 10-win team in the history of college football. I … uh … well. I can’t even say it.
• I like this.
I would compare witnessing JW's TD to watching the Pokes lose in 2004 Final Four v GaTech. I cried. Was 12.
— Christian Favalora (@CFavalora) January 2, 2016
• I noticed Gyasi Akem made a tackle on a kickoff at one point. I thought, “man, Gyasi Akem is a monster.” Then I thought, “man, Ole Miss has 55 Gyasi Akems.”
• [Weeps]

• Still don’t get this.
