STILLWATER — The Brendan Sorsby situation continues to loom over the Big 12. On Friday, Oklahoma’s attorney general Gentner Drummond urged the Big 12 to sanction the Red Raiders with legal backing from his office if needed.

Drummond argued that the conference has every right, according to its own bylaws, to “sanction member schools if a ‘Supermajority of Disinterested Directors determines’ that a member school has engaged in any action or a course of conduct materially adverse to the best interests of the Conference as a whole.”

With reports out that conference decision makers discussed boycotting any games against Texas Tech earlier this week it certainly sounds like the Big 12 has reached a bit of a boiling point. For those who haven’t kept up, Sorsby is currently eligible to play this season following a temporary injunction issued against the NCAA earlier this week, although he will miss the first two games against college football powerhouses Abilene Christian and Oregon State.

This letter came one day after Texas attorney general Ken Paxton sent a letter of his own which more or less said don’t mess with Texas (Tech).

Drummond didn’t just point out that Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark can step in and suspend Sorsby as a separate entity from the NCAA, the Oklahoma AG urged him to do so.

“My office stands ready to assist the Big 12 if Texas Tech’s leadership attempts to punish the Conference for doing the right thing,” Drummond wrote.

He also shared the following statement on X: “Texas Tech’s actions in obtaining eligibility for Brendan Sorsby — an athlete the NCAA declared permanently ineligible for extensive wagering on college sports, including games involving his own team — have constituted a shameful chapter in the story of college football.

If Texas Tech will not do the right thing, the Big 12 should.”
