Oklahoma State Getting No Respect Nationally Despite 10-0 Record
Good teams find a way to win, and that exact phrase could be the true motto for this gritty Cowboy team who have come away with wins in every close game situation this season.
Despite the undefeated record, however, the Cowboys are still not getting respect among national pundits. Oklahoma State pounded then No. 8 Texas Christian last week, and only improved to No. 8 in the college football playoff rankings. After again finding a way to win on Saturday, despite a 17-point deficit, the Cowboys still have not gained the respect in the media.
Oklahoma State improved to No. 4 in both the coaches and AP poll this week, but who would be surprised if they get no love from the college football playoff committee for a second straight week?
Well respected media member David Ubben said after OU’s win over Baylor that “OU now looks like the Big 12’s best hope for a CFB bid.”
But he may have forgot: They still play a gritty TCU game next week, and they still have a big road trip to Stillwater on Thanksgiving weekend.
And Joel Klatt, who has been a consistent advocate for the Cowboys, couldn’t help but shift his tone after the Sooners’ win on Saturday, ranking an undefeated Oklahoma State team below a one-loss Oklahoma team.
My New CFB Top 10 (11/15)
1) #Clemson
2) #OSU
3) #Bama
4) #Sooners
5) #OklahomaSt
6) #NotreDame
7) #Iowa
8) #Florida
9) #MSU
10) #Baylor— Joel Klatt (@joelklatt) November 15, 2015
At this point in the season, I understand style points matter. Hand it to OU: They whooped Baylor from start to finish, and the Bears couldn’t get anything going.
But have we forgot that OU also has an awful loss to Texas hiding in their closet? And are we sure Baylor > TCU?
Storylines can shift quickly, especially with historically great programs joining the conversation. (See: Ohio State, 2014).
Despite an undefeated season with several gritty performances from the Cowboys, critics are hiding in the shadows waiting to pounce on a potential slip-up from Oklahoma State. It’s clear Oklahoma State is going to have to earn their respect on the field, because the media has already shifted their storylines elsewhere.
