Oklahoma State Offers 2019 Wisconsin QB Commit Graham Mertz

Oklahoma State’s made a flood of new offers to QB prospects over the past month, the latest coming this week to Mission, Kansas four-star 2019 pro-prospect Graham Mertz.

Mertz, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound recruit, is a long-time Wisconsin Badgers pledge after making the decision to commit last October. He is the sixth QB offer in the 2019 class for OSU and the second this month, joining New Orleans dual-threat standout Lance LeGendre who was offered in late January.

When Mertz committed to the Badgers last fall, he was a lesser-heralded QB from the plains of Kansas who rewarded Wisconsin coaches who believed in him early with a commitment. However, since his pledge he has been unearthed on a national scale.

Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Georgia and others have since come in to offer in an attempt to swoop up the rising prospect, however all indications point to him sticking with his pledge … for now.

“He’s fully committed to Wisconsin,” Ron Mertz, his father, told Land of 10 several weeks ago. “It’s flattering to see all the other attention. There’s definitely kind of a sense that Wisconsin was here first, it feels right in my gut and that’s where he’s going to be. But any 17-year-old kid has to find some satisfaction in the attention of others. I’m sure he’s enjoyed that. I try to keep him grounded.”

If geography plays any factor in his final decision, OSU might be a contender for Mertz. Right now, he seems comfortable in his decision to stick with Wisconsin. But OSU could absolutely be one to watch if he opts to play in a more pass-happy system closer to home.
