Former Oklahoma receiver Gavin Freeman is crossing the Bedlam border and is headed to Oklahoma State.

Freeman announced his commitment to the Cowboys on Sunday morning. Out of Heritage Hall, he turned down scholarship offers to walk-on in Norman and made an impact with the Sooners, playing in all 26 games OU has played in during the past two seasons. This past season, he caught 19 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. He also returned 18 punts for 122 yards and another score.

Out of Oklahoma City, Freeman was electric in his time at Heritage Hall, catching 74 passes for 1,438 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, per MaxPreps. Listed at 5-foot-8, 189 pounds for OU last season, Freeman earned scholarship offers to Texas Tech, Tulsa and Air Force, and initially committed to Tech before electing to walk-on at OU, where his father played in the ’90s. Freeman was a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports, listed as the No. 1,744 player in the 2022 Composite rankings. 247Sports tabbed him as the No. 28 player from the state of Oklahoma.

From the jump, that electricity he showed with the Chargers showed up in Norman. His first touch of the ball with the Sooners in their 2022 season opener against UTEP went for a 46-yard touchdown.

Freeman closed his freshman season having rushed seven times for 71 yards and that score while catching three passes for 46 yards.

He started his sophomore season just as strong. In OU’s season opener against Arkansas State in 2023, Freeman caught four passes for 19 yards and returned two punts for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Freeman joins an OSU receiving room that lacks some experience beyond its starters. The Pokes return Brennan Presley, De’Zhaun Stribling, Rashod Owens and Talyn Shettron, but outside of those four, the Cowboys are mostly inexperienced. The Cowboys also added Virginia Tech transfer Da’Wain Lofton out of the portal this offseason. Lofton brings with him 410 receiving yards and three touchdowns from his time with the Hokies.

Freeman will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
