OSU Baseball: Cowboys Drop Series Finale to Kansas 9-6
The Jayhawks rallied with a five-run fifth and never looked back.
The Cowboys had a couple chances to topple the Big 12’s top team, but the Jayhawks instead moved to 22-0 when leading after six.
Oklahoma State fell to Kansas 9-6, dropping the finale and the weekend series on Sunday.
The Cowboys and Jayhawks traded off runs in the first three innings, starting with the Pokes. Then Alex Conover added a two-RBI single in the fourth to push the Pokes up 4-1.

But Kansas poured it on in the fifth, and that made the difference.
Cade Baldrige pulled KU within 4-2 with a ground-out RBI before Dariel Osoria’s grand slam put the Jayhawks up 6-4.

Both teams went scoreless in the sixth, but the Cowboys at least attempted to put the Jayhawks’ streak to the test.
With the Pokes down two in the bottom of the eighth, Garrett Shull reached with one out and then stole second on a wild pitch. But KU closer Boede Rahe struck out Danny Wallace before retiring Alex Conover (the tying run) on a fly-out to center. Rahe got the save for the Jayhawks, allowing just one run in two 1/3 innings.
The Cowboys employed five different pitchers to try to facilitate the rally, but Blake Drew took the L, moving to 0-1 on the year.
Jake Kennedy came in to pitch to start the ninth but started off giving up consecutive walks. That set up a two-run double by Jordan Bach push KU’s lead to 9-5 with just one out.
The Cowboys went to the bottom of the ninth down four but Brock Thompson walked and then advanced to second on a defensive indifference before Kollin Ritchie gave the home crowd some life with an RBI double to make it 9-6. Ritchie advance to third with just one out to make things a bit more interesting, but Rahe struck out the last two Cowboys swinging to end the game and the series.
With the loss, the Cowboys fall to 24-16 overall and 8-10 in conference play. Next up, they host Wichita State for a midweek match at 6 p.m. Tuesday at O’Brate Stadium.
