OSU Baseball: Cowboys’ Run-Rule Win Against Wichita State Gives Josh Holliday Milestone Win
The Cowboys only needed seven innings to get Holliday his 500th win.
The Cowboys rebounded from a series loss over the weekend to give their head coach a landmark victory.
Oklahoma State defeated Wichita State 14-4 in seven innings on Tuesday night, giving head coach Josh Holliday his 500th career victory. Here’s how it went down.
The Cowboys got on the board in the second thanks to an unearned run off a Garrett Shull single. Then the Shockers answered with an RBI single in the top of the third. That’s when the Pokes asserted themselves.
Oklahoma State scored eight runs in the bottom of the third starting (and nearly ending) with Brock Thompson. Thompson kicked things off with his ninth home run of the season, but that would not be his only RBI in the inning.
Sebastian Norman, Colin Brueggemann and Shull each added RBI singles, slicing up newly installed Wichita State reliever Brady Owens. Owens then walked consecutive Cowboys for runs before Thompson came back to the plate and batted in Alex Conover.

Kollin Ritchie capped the inning with an RBI groundout to make the lead 9-1.
The Shockers were able to score three in the fifth, but a two-run homer by Norman in the sixth put the mercy rule within reach.

Then Deacon Pomeroy was able to get the walk-off for his coach with his second home run of the season.

Bryce LeBlanc got the start on the mound and pitched two innings, striking out three and allowing just one hit and one walk. Parker Jennings pitched a pair of innings, giving up those three runs in the fifth. Zane Burns earned the win spelling Jennings in the fifth and moved to 2-0 on the season.
With the win, Holliday’s career record improves to 500-279-2 in 14 years and counting. He remains second in all-time wins at OSU behind Hall of Fame coach Gary Ward who went 953-313-1 in 19 seasons.
For his troubles, Holliday also earned a chilly Gatorade shower.

With their win the Cowboys move to 25-16. They’ll head to Lubbock to resume Big 12 play against Texas Tech this weekend. The series opener is slated for 1 p.m. Friday at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
