Oklahoma State’s introduction to beer sales at football games in last Thursday’s home-opener went off without a hitch.

According to The Oklahoman’s Berry Tramel, OSU reported sales of a total of 4,125 beers sold during its game against Missouri State – close to 10 percent of the 50,000 member crowd (50,103 to be exact) on hand to watch the Cowboys open the season. Better yet: No alcohol-related incidents were reported.

“I don’t see people drinking six beers at a game,” OSU fan Marilyn Pulliam told PFB when asked during Thursday’s opener if she had any safety concerns. “We’re not going to invest the time to get up from our seat, stand in line and miss the game … We want to watch the game! I think others will feel the same.”

Oklahoma State bolstered its security staff in preparation of the new beer sales as a precautionary measure. But it wasn’t needed, at least not because of the new brewskis available for purchase.

“I’ve got to give credit to our staff and the Sodexo staff,” OSU deputy athletic director Chad Weiberg told Bill Haisten of the Tulsa World. “They’ve done a fantastic job on every possible preparation. They’ve considered all the contingencies.

“I’m sure that everything will go well. There may be some hiccups along the way. If there are, we’ll address those. We’ll fix them and move forward.”

At $8 a pop and 4,125 beers sold, that’s roughly $33,000 in beer sales in OSU’s season debut. However, according to Haisten, that number is likely to climb as the games increase in meaning.

During the spring, beer was sold at Cowboy baseball games. Based on the baseball beer-sales calculations, it is expected that OSU could make about $100,000 during a typical home football game. [Tulsa World]

There are close to two dozen stand-alone points of sale scattered about Boone Pickens Stadium to purchase beer, and based off decent monetary returns and an incident-free Game 1, it seems as if the new offering in Boone’s house is being received well by fans.
