OSU Coaching Staff Hits Recruiting Trail for 5-Stars in Virginia After Kansas Win

Directly after upsetting Kansas in Lawrence and potentially upending the Big 12 race on Saturday, the OSU coaching staff hit the recruiting trail with Jayhawks feathers in their cap to pitch to their top targets.

Mike Boynton and assistant coach David Kontaxis, a heavily tied-in coach with deep AAU roots, made their way to Richmond, Virginia where they checked in on two five-star prospects with OSU interest: Armando Bacot and Isaiah Todd.

Bacot, a top-20 national recruit in the 2019 class, is the No. 1 player in Virginia and the No. 7 center prospect in the country. He recently named OSU among his top 10 schools and noted that OSU, along with Duke, UNC, Virginia Tech and Virginia, are pushing the hardest to land him.

But would you believe it if I told you that Bacot, a top-20 blue-chipper, wasn’t the biggest name on hand? Also playing as Boynton and Kontaxis looked on was Isaiah Todd, the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2020 class and the most highly regarded player out of Virginia.

The Pokes offered the 6-foot-10 power forward from Richmond last July and the staff — namely Kontaxis — has made inroads to try and get in on him. As things stand, he’s got 16 offers and counting and no favorites … yet.

The final name to watch, and perhaps the most immediately intriguing, is who two assistant coaches, believed to be Scott Sutton and John Cooper, saw Saturday night.

According to PrepHoops.com, two Cowboy assistants went to see point guard Courtney Ramey in Missouri, the fifth-highest rated uncommitted Class of 2018 prospect who would fill a massive need for OSU in the backcourt,

Ramey visited OSU recently and spoke highly of his connection to the coaching staff.

“It continues to be real strong,” Ramey told PrepHoops. “They both have come to see me in the past couple weeks. Oklahoma State was here tonight (Saturday) so that shows that they really care after having a big win.”

Ramey, a top-40 national recruit and former Louisville pledge from Saint Louis, is considering Villanova, Missouri, OSU, Texas and UCLA among his landing spots.
