OSU Hits Rare Milestone as Four More Cowboys Selected in MLB Draft
It’s just the sixth time that at least three Cowboys went so early in the draft.
The Cowboys didn’t break new ground in the postseason, but they did continue to make progress in the 2025 MLB Draft, which concluded on Monday.Â
Four Cowboys went on Monday, bringing the total drafted this year to five. In the last 13 years, 77 of coach Josh Holliday’s players have heard their name called in the MLB Draft.
This season, three Cowboys, including Nolan Schubart, who heard his name in the third round on Sunday, went in the first five rounds. That’s only the sixth time that at least three Cowboys went so early in the draft, and it’s the second time OSU has ever accomplished the feat in back-to-back seasons.
At least three Cowboys heard their names in the first five rounds in 1967, 1983, 1984, 2007 and 2024 before this season.
Here’s a recap of who went where on Monday:
RHP Sean Youngerman
4th round, 131st overall to Philadelphia Phillies
Youngerman earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors as a starting pitcher and a reliever after he finished the season with 59 strikeouts thrown in 52 innings across six starts and 20 total appearances. He finished with a 2.08 ERA and held opponents to a .193 batting average while giving up just eight walks.
RHP Gabe Davis
5th round, 137 overall to Chicago White Sox
The third-year Cowboy struck out 29 batters across 24.1 innings of work in 2025. In his career, he struck out 124 in 94 and 2/3 innings. Davis finished with an ERA of 5.92 in 2025.
LHP Harrison Bodendorf
10th round, 312th overall to Cleveland Guardians
The Hawaii transfer emerged as the arm OSU leaned on the most. He threw a team-high 92.2 innings, and Bodendorf made the most of that time, striking out a team-best 102 batters to rank fifth in the Big 12 and 37th nationally. No other Cowboy recorded more than 70.
Bodendorf finished with a 3.30 ERA, which ranked third among OSU pitchers with at least three appearances. Bodendorf also finished 10-1 as a starter and ranked 11th in the country in wins.
His efforts earned him a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Year honors.
2B Brayden Smith
13th round, 394th overall Baltimore Orioles
Smith earned a spot on the conference’s honorable mention team after hitting a team-best .304. He also finished third on the team in both home runs (11) and RBIs (40).
The Orioles drafted Smith as a second baseman after he split time between there and centerfield in 2025.
D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers reported on Monday night that OSU catcher Ian Daugherty signed with the Minnesota Twins following the draft. He finished the season hitting .257 with 10 doubles (third on OSU) and seven home runs (fifth).
