PFB Predictions: Oklahoma State-TCU

Published

on

Mike Gundy goes against one of the few coaches in college football who has more tenure than he has this weekend as Gary Patterson and No. 16 TCU come to Stillwater. We’ve been talking Pokes-Frogs all week, but now it’s time to give our predictions.

Kyle Porter

Pick: Oklahoma State 52-23
Spread: Oklahoma State covers
Player of the Game: Tyron Johnson

Another Oklahoma State rout. If last week’s beat down of Pitt put Oklahoma State on the map this season nationally, this one will establish them as a consensus top five team until they lose. I’m worried about injuries and rumors of injuries, but TCU should be far more worried about which scalpel Mason Rudolph is going to use and whether the anesthesia will take.

Kyle Boone

Pick: Oklahoma State 49-38
Spread: TCU covers
Player of the Game: Justice Hill

Oklahoma State will come out and lay the hammer early, but TCU’s stingy defense will settle in and make the Pokes sweat this one out literally and figuratively. Justice Hill’s big day where he goes for 200+ will lead OSU to a 4-0 start and its first marquee win of the season.

Kyle Cox

Pick: Oklahoma State 48-32
Spread: Oklahoma State covers
Player of the Game: Justin Phillips

Going off the beaten path here a bit but I think OSU needs to control TCU’s ground game and force a couple turnovers. I believe Phillips helps accomplish both. He converts another turnover into six points but this time it’s a recovered fumble.

Phillip Slavin

Pick: Oklahoma State 45-31
Spread: OSU Covers
Player of the Game: Tre Flowers

TCU keeps this one a least more interesting than Pitt through the first two quarters, but OSU builds a big enough lead, and the defense does a solid job against the run. This will force Kenny Hill to throw it too much and make a couple of second half mistakes, which Tre Flowers will capitalize on.

Justin Southwell

Pick: Oklahoma State 49-31
Spread: OSU Covers
Player of the Game: Mason Rudolph

I think TCU will try to sell out against the run and blitz Rudolph a lot. The Pokes will have to adjust and then they’ll start putting up video game numbers with their receiver depth.
The defense will feed off of the crazy crowd at Boone Pickens Stadium and force a couple of turnovers to put the nail in the coffin. Game over in the early 4th quarter.

Nick Welch

Pick: Oklahoma State 49-27
Spread: OSU Covers
Player of the Game: Jalen McClesky (Besides Rudolph)

Last week I said Chris Lacy/McClesky and I had half of that right. TCU gave up over 300 yards in the air last week to an average SMU team. I think TCU controls the run game but just can’t contain OSU’s mid-level threats like McClesky and friends.

Ryan Harris

Pick: Oklahoma State 52-28
Spread: Oklahoma State covers
Player of the Game: Tyron Johnson

After watching last week’s game from home, Tyron will be itching to come out and put up big numbers. The OSU offense will overwhelm the Horned Frog defense, and the OSU defense (hopefully Ramon) will pick off Kenny Trill at least once. Pokes roll in their Big 12 opener.

Matt Harris

Pick: Oklahoma State 49-35
Spread: OSU covers
Player of the game: Justice Hill

We finally get a chance to see potentially how good this team can be. TCU has one of the better defenses that the Pokes will face this year and I expect OSU to lean on the running game to open up the deep ball. I think Justice has a big day and a good TCU defense still won’t be able to stop OSU from coming close to the half century mark. I’m also still not sold on Kenny Hill. TCU impressed against Arkansas, but I also don’t think the Razorbacks are all that good. Pokes by 14.

Hayden Barber

Pick: Oklahoma State 52, TCU 34
Spread: OSU covers
Player of the game: Marcell Ateman

SMU star receiver Courtland Sutton was mostly held in check against TCU. I presume that will be the case with James Washington. Shouldn’t matter. Marcell goes big.

Thomas Fleming

Pick: OSU 55-34
Spread: OSU Covers
PotG: Tyron Johnson

TCU will keep it close through two quarters. They pass a ton out of five wide and OSU can’t stop it but they force a couple of turnovers and TCU can’t play catch up.
