Phil Forte Says Jawun Evans is Already Better than him
I wouldn’t take this at face value, considering Phil Forte is one of the most humble dudes on this basketball team. But on the basketball team’s first day of practice, Phil spoke with the media about his time in Stillwater and said that freshman Jawun Evans is already better than him.
“I remember when I was a freshman asking like Markel, now I’m trying to help Jawun out. It’s different, I came in with a McDonald’s All-American [Marcus Smart] now I’m the senior and he’s [Jawun] already better than me. So I’m like gah, it’s weird…”
If Jawun is already better than Forte, then this team may be in better shape than we all might expect. Most freshman face a learning curve going from high school to the college Division I level, but it’s also important to remember that Jawun Evans was not a normal senior.
Evans was a concensus five-star prospect by recruiting services, and was ranked as the No. 1 player coming out of the talent rich state of Texas in the 2015 recruiting class.
