Predictions on Where Four-Star Wing Marcus Watson Will Commit on Sunday

Yesterday on Twitter, 2019 four-star wing Marcus Watson announced he would be making his commitment decision on October 21.

Watson shortened his list of top schools down to four about a month ago. Georgia Tech, Oregon and Texas Tech all made the cut along with Oklahoma State. The Yellow Jackets have been the favorite throughout the majority of Watson’s recruitment process.

Currently, two of the three expert predictions on 247Sports have Georgia Tech as Watson’s landing spot, with the third prediction in favor of the Cowboys (via GoPokes.com’s Zach Lancaster). In addition, three of the five analyst predictions on Rivals.com are leaning toward the Yellow Jackets, with one for OSU and the other for Texas Tech.

The Buford, Georgia-product has taken official visits to Boston College, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. His fifth and final official visit was scheduled for Oregon last weekend but there are rumors that Watson didn’t make the trip.

Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner has had some trouble landing big time, local recruits during his tenure, and Watson has been labeled as a “must get” recruit for the Yellow Jackets.

With the commitment of Avery Anderson, the Cowboys currently don’t have a scholarship available for Watson (pending the outcome of the Michael Weathers situation), however, if Mike Boynton can obtain a commitment from the talented wing, I think he figures out a way to make it work roster-wise.

Now, let’s get to the PFB staff predictions on where Watson ultimately lands.

Boone: Going Ga. Tech here. OSU has a shot — and honestly, if it had a spot, I’d say they may be considered the favorite — but the 2019 class is full. Unless Michael Weathers’ situation doesn’t get resolved, and I suspect it will, then I think he stays close to home and rolls with the Yellow Jackets.

Cox: I’m going to say Watson stays in-state, with the Yellow Jackets slightly pulling out the win a la the two teams’ 2004 Final Four matchup. The fact that the Pokes are currently full on scholarships (Boynton would make it work if I’m wrong) and the unwanted buzz around the program as of late are enough to keep this big-time talent inside the Peach State’s borders.

Porter: Dude is a GAM! But I’m going to go with Georgia Tech. OSU got in late, and that’s always a little disconcerting when making picks. It also sounds like GT will build around him, which is tough to turn down.

“It was a good weekend,” Watson told Rivals of GT. “They have a great staff. They showed me everything they have planned for me and their vision for me. It was mostly the same stuff I had seen and heard, but it was in more detail about how I fit in.”

Ragusa: Oklahoma State. If Pastner doesn’t get a commitment from Watson it will be a huge disappointment for the Yellow Jackets.

That being said, I know he and the Georgia Tech coaching staff are doing everything they can to land the local talent. However, I think the Cowboys have a real shot here. First, Watson and Boynton are cousins. Second, he has a fellow Georgia native on the team in Kentrevious Jones. Finally, he has referenced on multiple occasions his solid relationship with the coaching staff and how Oklahoma State is a great situation for him.
