After losing two assistants this offseason, Steve Lutz has now replaced both.

Lutz hired St. Bonaventure assistant Dana Valentine to his Oklahoma State staff. This news comes about a week after Lutz added Lou Gudino from Ball State.

“I believe in surrounding our student-athletes with great teachers and even better people, and Dana fits that mold perfectly,” Lutz said. “He brings infectious energy, a passion for teaching, and a proven ability to help players maximize their potential. We’re excited for the impact he’s going to make here in Stillwater.”

Out of Roxbury, Massachusetts, Valentine spent the past two seasons with the Bonnies working under Mark Schmidt. In Valentine’s time in western New York, St. Bonaventure went 42-25.

Before he was with the Bonnies, Valentine worked on the staff at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. If that sounds familiar, it’s the program OSU signed Ben Ahmed from in the 2025 class. It’s also a school that OSU recently dished out three offers to.

Valentine was on staff for Putnam’s national title teams in 2022 and 2023, two seasons where the Mustangs went a combined 77-3. Along with serving as an assistant on the prep team, Valentine worked as compliance director/travel coordinator, showing an ability to wear multiple hats.

He played football at Worcester State University, running for 674 yards and six touchdowns as a junior.

Lutz’s staff will looks slightly different in Year 2 after Jeremy Cox returned to UTEP and Kelvin Sampson hired away Mike Ekanem, making way for Lutz’s hires.
