The Nine Best Stats From The Oklahoma State-Iowa State Game

Mason Rudolph might have had his most underrated performance of the season and OSU ran the ball (sort of!) Here are all the wacky numbers from another thriller on Saturday.

1. Rudolph slides to No. 3

After throwing for 327 yards on Saturday, now only one person has ever thrown for more yards in a single season than Mason Rudolph has this season. Rudolph now has 3,161 yards on the year which is only surpassed by Brandon Weeden in 2010 (4,277) and Brandon Weeden in 2011 (4,727). Mason Rudolph is really freaking good.

2. Chris Carson’s drought

Carson scored his first rushing TD since … September 19 on Saturday in Ames. That’s pretty wild. The 70 yards he posted were also the most he’s had since that Sept. 19 game against UTSA.

3. Emmanuel Ogbah continues to crush

No. 38 had his 11th sack of the season on Saturday. There have been seven double-digit sack season in OSU history, and Ogbah has two of them. On Saturday, he became the NCAA’s active leader in sacks with 26 for his career. He’s fourth all-time on the OSU list. Only Leslie O’Neal (34), Jason Gildon (33) and Rodney Harding (31) are ahead of him.

4. A Jordan Sterns first

That game-sealer and season-saver was Jordan Sterns’ first career pick. I would have lost some money betting against that.

5. Iowa State drops to 1-61-1

Iowa State’s record at home against teams inside the top six in the AP Poll is now 1-61-2. Its only win was in 2011 against Oklahoma State. If it had made that number 2-60-2, I’m not sure I would have been able to handle it. (via Tulsa World)

6. Mason Rudolph, better than most

I’m not sure where this puts him nationally, but I can’t think there are many QBs in college football with better career records than Mason Rudolph at 12-1. He’s also beaten every Big 12 team except for Baylor thus far.

7. With 180 seconds left

How about this? Oklahoma State has now had four conference games this season in which it has trailed or been tied with less than 180 seconds left. It won them all. [Playoff committee moves them down 22 spots after reading that stat because they didn’t dominate they’re not Ohio State]

8. The longest two drives

Oklahoma State had a 7:15 drive at the end of the first half and a 6:16 one at the beginning of the second. They ran 30 total plays (more than ISU ran total in the second half), chewed up almost an entire quarter, totaled 180 yards and scored two TDs. 9. Don’t go down 18

Oklahoma State has now come back from 17-point deficits twice this season (Tech, ISU). It has only done so one other time ever (2011 A&M). All of those are tied for the second-biggest comebacks in school history.
