The Cowboys’ defense has had some major momentum on the recruiting trail in recent weeks, but things took a bit of a downshift on Monday.

Jaylen Boardley, a three-star linebacker from Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana, announced he has decommitted from the Cowboys via his Twitter. Boardley was the fourth-highest rated commitment in the Cowboys’ 2024 class and is listed as the No. 647 player in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Boardley committed to the Cowboys in April over offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, LSU, Texas Tech and others.

The Cowboys have made recent moves in the linebacker market, however, securing commitments from Gunnar Wilson and Jonathan Agumadu in recent weeks.

Boardley’s decommitment moves the Cowboys down to a dozen pledges in the 2024 class. Boardley is the second decommitment this summer after in-state defensive lineman Will Smith backed off his pledge to the Pokes in late May.

Of the Cowboys’ 12 commitments in the 2024 class, seven are defenders.
