Why Mike Gundy Didn’t Dance After OSU’s Win over Texas
Mike Gundy’s made a name for himself and the OSU brand over the last year with his flowing mullet and snake-hunting adventures. But before then, it was his dancing exploits that made him a viral sensation on the internet through the years.
After just about every big win (like this 2011 classic after a win over A&M), Gundy dropped it to the floor and shook it to appease his players. However in a gritty win over a blueblood school like Texas on Saturday, he kept his moves to himself and explained why he didn’t break it down in a candid postgame presser in Austin.
“I was really disappointed [the players] didn’t want me to dance,” said Gundy. “I was trying to get a little national publicity, hit the SportsCenter and such, and they didn’t ask for that. Now, they’ve gotten so used to winning, they don’t even ask me to dance, so that’s a downer for me.”
So there you have it. Gundy was ready to bust a move, but the players didn’t want it. Maybe it was the 13-10 barnburner that killed their buzz, maybe it was an unranked opponent which disqualifies any dancing, or maybe it was simply an expected win. Gundy felt it was the latter.
Said Gundy: “The point is that for some reason they’re learning to win big games on the road in difficult places. They should be proud of that.”
I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the Gundy dance, although would anyone really miss it that much? …
