2019 Athlete Peyton Powell Names OSU, Ohio State, Texas Among Top 10 Schools

Class of 2019 three-star prospect Peyton Powell trimmed his list from 21 to 10 on Monday, naming Oklahoma State among his top cut of schools along with Texas, Ohio State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Arkansas, TCU, Virginia and Illinois.

Powell is listed by 247Sports as both a receiver and safety, but his position varies across the list of schools recruiting him. Virginia, Nebraska and Georgia Tech are all recruiting him as a quarterback, and the rest are split on bringing him in as either a defensive back or as a receiver. OSU’s offer is believed to be designated as a safety.

“A few schools have offered me as a defensive back,” Powell told 247Sports recently. “Many more have offered me as a wide receiver. Nebraska, Georgia Tech, and Virginia have offered me as a quarterback.”

As for a decision timeline and a reading of the tea leaves on where he may be leaning, the in-state schools — Texas, Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech — may have an upper hand in keeping the Permian High School (Texas) star within state borders. But he’s open to leaving the Lone Star State for the right fit.

“I want to stay in-state, but there are some schools that I would definitely leave the state for.”

Powell says his commitment could come “at any point,” but he hasn’t set an official date. “I definitely want to decide before the start of my senior season.”
