Washington Named Biletnikoff Finalist; Rudolph a Davey O’Brien Finalist
James Washington and Mason Rudolph have been named finalists for the top award given to the player at their respective positions; Washington to the Biletnikoff, and Rudolph to the Davey O’Brien.
The final three for the Biletnikoff award are Colorado State’s Michael Gallup, James Washington and West Virginia’s David Sills. Here’s how the three finalists match up following this weekend’s action.
Player | School | Receiving Yards | TDs | Receptions | Yards/Rec |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Michael Gallup | Colorado State | 1345 | 7 | 94 | 14.31 |
James Washington | OSU | 1317 | 11 | 61 | 21.59 |
David Sills | West Virginia | 903 | 18 | 57 | 15.84 |
I wrote this weekend that Washington wrapped up the award on Saturday despite his team’s loss, and I’m sticking by that. He had 8 receptions for 159 yards and 2 scores, further distancing himself from the rest of the bunch. I don’t think the vote will be all that close, either.
Rudolph is also one of three finalists for the Davey O’Brien, along with OU’s Baker Mayfield and Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett.
It’s safe to say that, uh, one of these does not belong. Rudolph leads the country in passing yards just ahead of Mayfield, and Barrett ranks 26th in the same category.
QB | School | Pass Yards | Total TDS |
---|---|---|---|
Mason Rudolph | Oklahoma State | 4115 | 41 |
Baker Mayfield | Oklahoma State | 3816 | 39 |
JT Barrett | Ohio State | 2698 | 40 |
Rudolph is also third in FBS in passing touchdowns with 33, ahead of Barrett, who has 32, and behind Mayfield with 34.
The 2017 Biletnikoff Award and Davey O’Brien Award winners will be presented live on December 7, 2017 on ESPN.
