Daily Bullets (Nov 20) – Cornelius’ is OSU’s Kyler Murray, Lots of Les Miles Talk
Cool Hand Cornelius
When you think about trademark qualities of OSU players, the stoic, unfazed face of Taylor Cornelius will be one of the 2018 calling cards.
Corndog went from Bedlam goat to Senior Night hero by outdueling West Virginia star Will Grier. Cornelius’ fourth quarter will be long-remembered: a 34-24 deficit became OSU’s second victory over a top-10 team this season, with three long touchdown drives.
“An all-timer,” offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich called it.
“Couldn’t be more proud of him,” Mike Gundy said.
“Awesome,” said roommate Dillon Stoner, who had nine catches for 127 yards.
Cornelius, of course, acted like he had just completed a Frisbee to a biology major at Theta Pond.
“He’s Steady Eddie, man,” Yurcich said. “He does not vary. He’s got a great mentality.” [NewsOK]
From a personality/leadership standpoint it seems like you could fairly say what Kyler Murray is to Baker Mayfield, Taylor Cornelius is to Mason Rudolph. Not just considering that one is a more dynamic runner than the other but how one tends to wear it on their sleeve more.
Chuba Show
When Justice is away, Chuba (Hubbard) will play.
Hubbard, the redshirt freshman from Canada, ran for 134 yards on a career-high 26 carries. He added five catches for 24 yards and a touchdown.
“I was just holding my breath that one of those times he’s going to make that free guy miss and take it to the crib because he’s got that electric speed,” offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said. “He’s got that extra gear that he can go and take those runs all the way to the end zone. He’s a great kid, man.” [TulsaWorld]
2019 Preview
Not to skip too far ahead but these thoughts on 2019 Cowboy Football seemed good.
The story for OSU next year is also that, can they improve enough at CB to free up their safeties to be more aggressive? Also they are getting wiped out across the DL by graduation and their current DL class for 2019 is all HS kids, that’ll be a story as well. Everyone will zero in on QB, I’m sure, that’ll probably work out just fine with that Wallace fellow running around. [Concerning Sports]
The d-line comments are easily foreseeable (total overhaul if Darrion Daniels doesn’t come back). The cornerback comments are interesting but everybody sans KEM aging a year should be an improvement.
OSU and NCAA Notes
All for this idea of Gundy’s: “injured” players can’t come back in until later….Colorado fired the 2016 national coach of the year over the weekend….Gundy on Les Miles: “I know he’s 65 but you figure (Les) can still add good”….Corndog named national offensive player of the week….Why college football is better with Les Miles coaching (from both NewsOK and ESPN)
Numbers speak pretty loudly in Tylan’s favor… like top three in the country loud.

A fascinating look at the difference in crunch time defenses.
Thought the last play of the game was somewhat indicative of the style change on defense. Similar situations from WVU 2018 and K State 2016. 2018 version is blitz with virtually man cvg across the board, 2016 version is 3 deep and 3 man rush. Both worked out, just different. pic.twitter.com/4LIfTpJPZ9
