Gundy Blasts Writer After Being Asked About Money for Haircut in Pickens’ Will
Gundy reacted appropriately to a ludicrous question.
Shortly after T. Boone Pickens’ passing last week, a satirical website posted an article — which was shared like wildfire on social media — claiming that Pickens in his will set aside $30 for Mike Gundy to go to Sports Clips and get a haircut.
The idea of the article was a disgrace in itself, but even more so because it was filled with fake quotes from Gundy and from the late Pickens.
Unfortunately, though, one AP writer didn’t get the memo. On a conference call Monday morning, he asked Gundy about the satirical post, resulting in Mike Gundy rightfully lambasting him.
Mike Gundy was asked if there was any truth to a 'social media' rumor that Boone Pickens left him a small sum of money to get a haircut. Gundy felt the question was disrespectful to Pickens and media in general and offered this: pic.twitter.com/if1fNU4GkJ

Here’s the audio version of the question, which was apparently asked twice on the conference call, according to John Hoover. The first time it was asked, Gundy either ignored the question or experienced some sort of technical issue.
WOW! MUST listen to @CoachGundy destroy @MarkRosner3 on today's #Big12 Teleconference. Holy crap. Dead. ?? ☠️ pic.twitter.com/rzNZn9OwN9

It’s pretty poor taste to even discuss Pickens’ will in such short aftermath of his passing, let alone intimate details (even on the off chance that the AP writer was trying to joke about it). The fact that this was so obviously fake and avoidable only makes this situation even more head-scratching. Good on Gundy to call it how it is, and cap it with a “you bet” at the end.
