OSU Bullets

• The Camping World Bowl vs. Notre Dame is definitely the best (sub-optimal, non-Sugar Bowl) bowl possibility for this year.

Notre Dame continues to be the most intriguing and compelling matchup. Tramel thinks the Camping World would be more likely to take Texas or Iowa State — which is probably true, especially in the case of Texas — but the Alamo would also jump at the Horns, and ISU might still finish behind both teams #Win9Games. [PFB]

Assuming OU losing to TCU in Norman is relatively off the table, the ideal scenario is for OSU to win out – effectively eliminating the Big 12’s (OU’s) playoff hopes – and Baylor to win out and the title over OU.

This sends Baylor to the Sugar and OU to the Alamo, leaving the Pokes for the Camping World against an ACC/Notre Dame opponent that we haven’t faced recently.

Was it the right move for Mike Gundy to pull Chuba Hubbard in the third quarter on Saturday?

(Running up stats on the Jayhawks is) his only shot of getting the attention he deserves, and a trip to New York as a result. One hundred twenty-two yards and a pair of touchdowns don’t qualify, I’m afraid.

Gundy was judicious pulling Hubbard when he did, but I worry that it will have a punitive effect on his Heisman candidacy. Now Hubbard needs something straight from Barry Sanders’ trophy season of 1988 against both West Virginia and Oklahoma.

Only then can he get his trip, and his teammates can get what they want. [TulsaWorld]

After watching Alabama star Tua Tagovaiola go down in mop-up duty, Gundy sort of comes out looking like roses here, right? It’s tough but by hedging, you at least give him another try at it.

Is OSU the third-biggest brand name in the Big 12?

Since 2006, the Cowboys have made a bowl game every year and even won a conference title back in 2011 (A team that should have played for a national title). Not to mention since 2010, OSU is 7-2 in bowl games. Of course, the Cowboys do have a history with players such as Barry Sanders, Dez Bryant, Justin Blackmon and Brandon Weeden in the last 30 years but what really stands out to me is the coach, Mike Gundy who has been there since 2005 as a head coach.

He is the face of that program and he is well known nationally and yes; the famous 2007 rant helps. (OSU) by far has been the most consistent program in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma since 2010 when Texas went downhill. [HCS]

Iowa State may have a bigger football stadium, Baylor has more league titles (in the life of the Big 12), and TCU has the longest-tenured coach, but Mike Gundy and his eight-win floor year-to-year makes OSU the most consistent and bankable brand in the league.

Blake Jarwin is developing nicely in Dallas – here’s to hoping he’s ready to take over when Witten actually retires

• Neat story here as Cowboy linebacker Kevin Henry was granted a sixth year of eligiblity

Non-OSU Bullets

• The benefit of pursuing passion outside of work
This TGC (faith-based) post on the Digital Reformation was good
• Missing out on Bill Belichick to Dallas is almost as bad as Brad Stevens to OSU

Watched this sports movie earlier in the week on Netflix – gosh it was great.
