OSU Bullets

• Here’s what you need to know about last night’s drubbing at GIA.

With the loss, OSU broke a three-game winning streak over West Virginia and did it by laying bricks. The Cowboys finished 14-of-48 from the field, were outrebounded at home and lost the turnover battle.

It all came down to the Cowboys’ ineptitude on offense and the Mountaineers’ strength on defense. The Cowboys played right into the Mounaineers’ hands. [PFB]

The offense was brutal – 19 points in the first half is inexcusable. You’re playing a West Virginia team running a defense you see multiple times a year, not the 85′ Bears. Before last night’s game, I thought this team was full of shooters but not scorers – players who can create shots. I’m not sure what they are after that.

It’s a long season but many more nights like that and it’ll be tough to draw a crowd.

• I’ll stop talking about this at some point but as much as Mike Yurcich worked out for the Pokes (stop – he brought an NFL QB + Spencer Sanders, routinely had top 25 offenses), I think Gundy got a bit out of his world hiring a guy from Jersey.

(Sean) Gleeson downplayed the fish-out-of-water angle repeatedly the first few times he met the press. He also admitted he took Gundy’s job offer without visiting Stillwater first. I wonder about that now.

“There’s going to be a grocery store and a place to get your hair cut and a dry cleaner everywhere you go. I wasn’t too concerned about some of the things more related to daily life,” Gleeson said. “I was just real excited for an opportunity Coach Gundy graced me with, to get in here and work my tail off.”

There is a grocery store, a barber shop and a dry cleaner in Piscataway, New Jersey, where Gleeson will call plays for Rutgers, same as Stillwater. It’s just they’re a lot closer to home. [TulsaWorld]

Coaches move all of the time for jobs. But most would probably admit it’s ideal to wind up near family at some point, right?

• ProFootballFocus has the Pokes graded as the 25th best offensive line in college football this year.

25. OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS
Highest-graded player: OT Teven Jenkins – 83.7 (18th)
Oklahoma State’s offensive line allowed a sack or hit on just 3.77% of their pass-blocking snaps this season, ranking 16th in the FBS, and they were led by Teven Jenkins, who gave up just eight pressures on his 412 pass-blocking snaps. As a unit, they allowed just 59 total pressures as pass protection was clearly their strong suit this year, contrary to Chuba Hubbard’s success. [ProFootballFocus]

It’s bizarre to think pass blocking was OSU’s strong suit… right? That “allowed a sack or hit” number has to be partially attributed to Spencer Sanders’ elusiveness, too.

It’d be surprising if Jenkins and Marcus Keyes didn’t grade out in their top-50 of run blockers.
