LIVE BLOG: Oklahoma State Falls to Utah in Big 12 Opener
Live updates as the Cowboys host the Utes.
FINAL: Oklahoma State 19, Utah 22
No. 14 Oklahoma State fell to No. 12 Utah 22-19 despite a hard-fought comeback attempt.
Drive Recap (OSU 19, Utah 22):
And after not scoring since their second possession, the Cowboys score back-to-back TDs and the get two shots at the two-point conversion after a defensive PI. Pull within 3.
Drive Recap (OSU 11, Utah 22):
This game is exhausting.
Drive Recap (OSU 11, Utah 22):
Where the heck has that been?
Give the ball to Brennan Presley for the first time in two quarters and you get eight points in 36 seconds.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 22):
The Utes strolled into the endzone. As if he was watching my Twitter feed, Gundy put Bowman back in. In two drives, Bowman accomplished another three-and-out and another interception. Utah proceeded to stroll into the endzone.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 16):
Cowboys’ defense gets another stop to give its offense another chance down two scores with nine and a half minutes left. But they haven’t taken advantage of the last several chances so…
V. weird.
Alan Bowman is not injured, it was a “coaching decision” to bench him, per the Cowboy Radio Network. #OKState

Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 16):
In 11 drives, the Cowboys have six three-and-outs and an interception.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 16):
A gassed Cowboys defense holds Utah to a field goal again, but that might not do much good if your offense can sustain drives, much less find the scoreboard.
End of 3rd: Oklahoma State 3, Utah 13
The Cowboys are reeling a bit. Despite a QB change, OSU hasn’t scored since its FG on the second drive of the game, Utah has been the aggressor throughout and there has not been much to point to to instill confidence in the Pokes’ prospects. Still, OSU is down just 10. If they can get a stop, the Cowboys need to somehow figure out how to move the ball against a stout Utes defense.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 13):
After a play of the year candidate for Micah Bernard sets them up in scoring position, the Utes have to settle for 3. This one goes in. Cowboys down 10 but with the success they’ve had so far this game, that deficit looks pretty deep.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 10):
Rangel gets a little more going on his second drive but it still stalls out.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 10):
And after a huge 48-yard run from Isaac Wilson sets up Utah in OSU territory, the Utes stall out and then miss a 36-yard field goal attempt. What is this game?
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 10):
Wowza. Garret Rangel gets the nod to start the second half but OSU still stalls out on a three-and-out. Alan Bowman was 8-for-22 for 89 yards and an interception in the first half.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 10):
OSU’s defense forces a three-and-out on Utah’s opening drive of the second half.
HALFTIME: Oklahoma State 3, Utah 10
The account for the third turnover in the last six plays, which is confirmed by review and decide to run out the last 20 seconds of the first half by handoff. OSU is probably lucky to be down just seven at the half.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 10): (4x)
Turnover.
Turnover.
Turnover.
I have no idea whose ball it is.
Utah is technically 2-for-7 on third down, but it’s actually more like 5-for-7 because the Utes have converted three fourth downs.

Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 10):
That drive was feast or famine. Buoyed briefly by a couple of big-time catches and runs by De’Zhaun Stribling and Talyn Shettron, the Cowboys’ drive sank with a missed field goal attempt from 46 yards. Doesn’t feel like OSU can afford to keep coming up empty.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 10):
As many plays as Cowboy defenders Trey Rucker has made, the Pokes defense has been unable to get off the field and it’s starting to hurt them. About time for the offense to show some life.
Less than ideal.
#OKState has gone three-and-out in three of its four drives. In those three-and-out drives, the Cowboys have gained -1 yard.

End of 1st: Oklahoma State 3, Utah 3
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 3):
That drive should have been stopped at least twice but the Utes were able to put 3 on the board.
Nick Martin punched the ball out but Micah Bernard but the Utah RB fell on it deep in Utah territory. A few plays later, Utah receiver Dorian Singer’s incomplete catch was overturned after a crazy review that turned a fouth-and-9 to a fourth-and-3. Utah picked up 11. Then Kendal Daniels gets a sack for a loss of 11 before Singer picks up 16 to make it manageable. But finally, Xavier Ross gets a sack for a nine-yard loss as the first quarter retired and set up the field goal.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 0):
The Utes’ defense gets another three-and-out after the Cowboys come up a yard short on third down. Take a little momentum back after that turnover.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 0):
They takin’ it back.

Trey Rucker just made up a lot of turf and fast and ran under Wilson’s deep ball.
Drive Recap (OSU 3, Utah 0):
OSU finds some traction on the ground game which sets up the RPO for a deep drive. Unfortunately, the Cowboys have to settle for 3 after making it all the way down to the Utah 6-yard line.
Drive Recap (OSU 0, Utah 0):
The Cowboys get the stop thanks to a big play by Nick Martin on third down and then Lyrik Rawls making a play on a fourth-down pass attempt. Cowboys take over at their own 32.
On the first drive, Utah tight end Brant Kuithe hits the turf hard and is slow to get up. Could be two major losses for Utah’s offense.
After all the back and forth this week, it looks like the Utes will go with Isaac Wilson at QB over Cam Rising. Rising went through pregame warmups but the broadcast crew indicated that he had issues throwing the ball with his hand injury.
Drive Recap (OSU 0, Utah 0):
Pokes stumble out of the gate with an opening drive three-and-out and then get flagged for an illegal snap on the punt.
Oof. The Utes might be glad they packed “icy.”
The turf in Boone Pickens Stadium is 157°, per the Cowboy Radio Network.
It feels like 75° in Salt Lake City, Utah, right now.
Holy smokes. #OKState

Injury Report: OSU’s O-line, which has caught a little flack this noncon, is still without starting right tackle Jake Springfield.
Uni Reveal: The Cowboys are going with an unlucky uni combo for Utah.
Oklahoma State welcomes Big 12 newcomer (and favorite) Utah in an early Top 15 matchup with big-time conference implications at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Cowboys have made it through their nonconference unscathed despite no real production from their running game and, you know, the nation’s leading rusher from last year.
On the other sideline, the Utes were just working Cam Rising back into his duties after a year off when a hand injury kept him out of last week’s game, and he’s a game-time decision for Week 4. Which offense will hit the ground running? Which defense is best equipped to mitigate a slow start? The answers to those questions will go a long way in determining who wins this game — and which team moves forward with a big leg up in the league race.
