OSU Softball: Cowgirls Fall to No. 16 Arizona 9-1
The Cowgirls couldn’t corral the Cats’ bats.
A day after retiring the Wildcats in walk-off fashion the Cowgirls got run-ruled.
No. 21 Oklahoma State fell to No. 16 Arizona 9-1 in five innings. The loss ends a three-game winning streak for the Cowgirls, including a midweek win over No. 1 Oklahoma.
After getting let down in dramatic fashion in the series opener on Friday, the Wildcats came out swinging. Arizona scored four runs in the first, three in the second and two in the third innings behind 12for–24 batting.
Arizona’s Regan Shockey (3-for-4) and Trice Sereniti (2-for-3) both rank in the top 8 in the Big 12 in batting average, and they showed why. They were involved in four of the Wildcats’ nine runs, including a single by Sereniti which facilitated Shockey scoring off an OSU error for the first run of the game. Shockey would end with two RBIs for the Cats, as would Tayler Biehl. Six Arizona players would drive a run in on Sunday.
RyLee Crandall got the start in the circle for OSU and fell to 6-5 on the season. In two innings, she allowed nine hits and seven earned runs. She walked one and didn’t log a strike out.
Preslee Downing pitched the final three innings allowing three hits and two earned runs and a walk.
With the loss, the Cowgirls fall to 29-12 on the season and 10-7 in Big 12 play.
Saturday’s game set a program home record with 2,093 attendees, breaking the previous record of 2,043 set earlier this season against Nebraska. It should be quite the show in Game 3. The series rubber match will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday in Cowgirl Stadium.
