Tyson Pogi, Son of Aso, Commits to Play Basketball at Oklahoma State
Another Pogi is headed to Stillwater.
In the midst of recruiting the transfer portal, the Oklahoma State staff picked up a commitment from a Class of 2027 OSU legacy Friday evening.
Tyson Pogi, the son of former Oklahoma State quarterback Aso Pogi, announced his commitment to play basketball at Oklahoma State. Out of Southmoore, Pogi is the No. 143 player in the 2027 class, per 247Sports, which lists him as the No. 29 point guard and No. 2 Oklahoman in the cycle.

Pogi, listed at 6-1, was his district’s offensive player of the year as a junior this past season after averaging 27.7 points, 4.1 assists and 6.3 rebounds a game. Oklahoma State offered back last August.
“It meant a lot to me just because that’s where my dad played football,” Tyson told PFB after the offer. “And then just from them recruiting me for such a long time throughout like eighth grade all the way up to the point right now. They’ve been loyal to me, is what I would say. So, it meant a lot to know that they put that trust in me to officially throw the offer.”
Pogi had a big Peach Jam last summer, averaging 17.2 points across six games playing in the E16 division with MoKan while shooting 57% (!!) from 3.
Here’s how Tyson’s dad explained Pogi’s game to PFB:
“He’s a high-IQ, savvy point guard, can play off the pick-and-roll,” Aso said. “He does a great job of reading space, occupying space off the dribble or with the pass, occupying space with his vision. Does a good job of manipulating and getting advantages for his teammates as well as himself. I think he’s just a really good leader. He’s not a guy that doesn’t know things – he’s extremely intelligent when it comes to offensive systems, just what a head coach is trying to get done.”
Aso threw for 3,673 yards and 18 touchdowns in the early 2000s from the Cowboys while running for another nine scores. Early in his high school career, it looked like Tyson might follow in his father’s football footsteps. He was the quarterback at Mustang and took some trips up to Stillwater as a football prospect. But rather than playing on Lewis Field like he’s dad, Tyson will be playing slightly east of there on Eddie Sutton Court.
“Obviously for me, being a former OSU Cowboy, just really enjoyed my time there, but I was just more happy for him, just a goal that he set and something that he loves to do,” Aso said after Tyson’s offer. “Cool, cool experience. …
“They’ve been scouting Tyson for a long time. Keiton Page, to his credit, has built a really strong relationship with Tyson and just has watched him develop and has followed his path. So they did a wonderful job of building an individual relationship with him and not with me.”
Pogi becomes OSU’s first commitment in the 2027 class.
