Oklahoma State Wins All-Sports Bedlam for Sixth Time in Last Seven Years

A look at some of OSU’s best Bedlam moments of the school year.

The University of Oklahoma hasn’t won an all-sports Bedlam since the 2018-19 school year.

Oklahoma State got the better of its Bedlam counterpart 18.5-5.5 this school year — the widest single-year margin of victory for either school since the turn of the century. OSU has now won six of the past seven all-sports Bedlam’s with the only one OSU didn’t win in that stretch being a tie during the 2022-23 school year.

Here’s a look back at some of the more notable OSU Bedlam victories of the school year.

Softball: OSU 6, OU 4

The Cowgirls scored in five straight innings against No. 1 OU back on April 15.

Tia Warsop was the Cowgirls’ offensive hero, going 2-for-3 at the dish with two RBIs and a run scored. She got the scoring started with an RBI double to cap off a nine-pitch at-bat in the second inning.

After OU took the lead in the top of the third with a two-run home run, Karli Godwin promptly tied it back up with a solo shot in the bottom of the inning.

That started a spree of four straight runs the Cowgirls would score, which ended up being enough for Ruby Meylan. It was a legacy-defining day in the circle for OSU’s All-American, as she threw the entire seven innings, giving up just two earned runs while striking out nine and walking one.

Wrestling: OSU 37, OU 0

The David Taylor Era is really just getting going, but there isn’t much it has lacked.

One thing that had eluded the Cowboys under Taylor to this point was that the Cowboys’ hadn’t shut a dual opponent out — that was until OU visited Gallagher-Iba Arena on Jan. 11.

This dual will be most remembered for Jax Forrest’s college debut, as the high school senior elected to enroll at the semester to start his college career, and that career started with a bang. He pinned Carter Schmidt in 47 seconds.

That was just a piece of the Cowboys’ domination that day, though. Kody Routledge, Casey Swiderski and Landon Robideau each also won via bonus points. Routledge’s performance was extra impressive given he was a redshirting freshman while his opponent, Peyten Keller, was a former All-American.

Meanwhile, Alex Facundo, Zach Ryder and Cody Merrill each beat guys ranked in the Top 11 of their weight classes.

Baseball: OSU 7, OU 3

This win looks even better given the hindsight that the Sooners would get hot and go on to win a national title. But on a rainy April 14 in Tulsa, the Cowboys reigned supreme.

The hard-hitting Pokes pounded four home runs in the first four innings of that game, starting with this Kollin Ritchie two-run shot in the first.

Then Campbell “Soup” Smithwick hit solo shots in the first and fourth to make it 4-0.

A Garrett Shull two-run shot in the fourth made it 6-0.

Smithwick would score his third run of the game in the sixth when he scored on a wild pitch.

The rain then started coming into Tulsa. OU’s Jaxon Willits hit a three-run home run in the eighth on what ended up being the last play of the game before a torrential downpour happened at OneOK Field.

Should also note that this was the second meeting between the Bedlam rivals, with OU beating OSU 10-1 in the second game of the season.
