Daily Bullets (June 22)
Second-in-Line
Much ado has been made about Bob’s vacancy atop the league – is it possible that the opening has been filled by default?
Technicalities aside, Gundy could already be deemed the dean of league football coaches, and not just because of his OSU tenure. No other Big 12 coach is as professionally assertive (see: comments on the Central Michigan “loss,” league expansion or the Longhorn Network) or personally confident (the hairdo, the singlet, the rattlesnakes).
A new five-year contract, with a built-in annual rollover, gives him premium security. Five double-digit win totals plus five bowl victories since 2010 give him campus clout unseen since Eddie Sutton’s heyday. [TulsaWorld]
Gundy’s confidence and personality – combined with ten win seasons – sure make him seem like the heir apparent. Even the way he poked at Ole Miss is Stoops-ian. An interesting thought to revisit in a year.
Earning Your Keep
Mike Boynton’s last assistant could pay off big time with a certain commitment.
Go Pokes has learned that new assistant coach David Kontaxis’ connections from coaching lots of AAU basketball on the eastern seaboard have been paying dividends in recruiting and one of those prospects where it has come into play is with Norfolk (Oak Hill Academy), Va., standout post player David McCormack. [GoPokes $]
McCormack is a big time player and a notable deviation from what the Pokes are used to down low (with my regards to Solomon, an admirable worker). How college basketball staffs are put together is interesting – balancing recruiting, game planning, game management and more.

Jawun was so good in Bedlams.
With 60% of the vote, Jawun's 42-point Bedlam explosion will go down as his best performance as a Cowboy. @j3vans1_ said this afterwards. pic.twitter.com/so1iW1AvHT
