Big Uglies
The offensive line and the stable of running backs worked like a charm last night for 332 yards, averaging 9.0 yards per carry. And the local media appears to be warming a bit.
If blocking and stats against South Alabama and Pittsburgh are comparable to what they were against the Golden Hurricane, then OSU fans can begin to trust the 2017 offensive line.
Maybe Henson’s group can evolve into something that resembles one of the Wickline-coached lines. If that happens, the College Football Playoff talk would become progressively more legitimate. [TulsaWorld]
As youth has progressed and a mountainous, veteran left tackle moved in, it seems reasonable to feel good about the unit. Nine yards per carry is a nice perk after seeing the line struggle early in previous seasons too.
Not Top-Ten
247 has their talent rankings 0ut – and the Pokes are just where you’d picture them: as an overachiever.
Oklahoma State and Oklahoma both belong on this list. But at 37th, which ranks fifth in the Big 12, the Cowboys get the nod. Mike Gundy has shown a penchant for developing talent that fits his system, and that’s very much the case heading into 2017. For instance, James Washington is a preseason All-American. He also ranked as a three-star recruit in the industry rankings (247Sports did peg him as a four-star). [247]
What an indictment on the rating systems – OSU was fifth in the Big 12 but has won ten games in five of the last seven years.
OSU and NCAA Notes
Six ESPN analysts have the Pokes in the playoff….Bill Snyder talking on the Players’ Tribune is fantastic….CBS thinks OSU is one of 17 teams who can win the national title this year….USAToday has OSU in the Cotton Bowl against a blueblood….Five takeaways from Thursday nights’ college football games
Hope Gundy gets his limit soon.
