Oklahoma State Hoops Target Yor Anei Recaps Official Visit

Oklahoma State played host to 6-foot-10 center Yor Anei this weekend for an official visit and, by all accounts, Anei came away impressed with what he saw.

The Overland Park-area native is a hidden gem with offers from Central Arkansas, Denver, Southern Illinois, and now Oklahoma State after picking up an offer this weekend from head coach Mike Boynton himself. He says the visit itself and everything he saw exceeded his pre-visit expectations.

“Boynton handed me the offer face-to-face,” Anei said. “We were just talking, and he said he wanted to do it in person. So it meant a lot when he said that. The visit though, I would say it definitely surpassed my expectations. The campus was way better than I expected.

“I thought the facilities were real nice. I like how the football stadium is connected to the basketball building. That was real nice.”

In addition to making a strong impression with its facilities, Oklahoma State has an orange-colored connection in Anei’s AAU coach Victor Williams, an Oklahoma State alum who made the visit with him this weekend.

“Yeah, big connection—that’s my AAU coach. Oklahoma State saw me in one of my games and took interest and then contacted him. So that’s kind of a cool connection.”

Anei’s recruitment and OSU interest has grown quickly over the last several weeks and culminated with the scholarship offer on Saturday. He got a chance to visit the entire facility, play pick up hoops with the team, and meet with the coaches who have been recruiting him — namely assistant coach John Cooper, who he says has taken the lead in his recruitment.

Although things have progressed rapidly between both OSU and Anei, Oklahoma State is insistent Anei take his time and think things over without making a snap decision on a place he could spend the next four years at.

“They’re just telling me to take my time with my decision and really think about the perfect fit for a school,” said Anei. “They think I would be a good fit for the school. Right now though, I have no clue and haven’t thought about [a timeline for a decision].

Being four hours from home, Oklahoma State is within driving distance should he make a decision based off geography. But Anei says among the factors in his recruitment, distance is essentially a non-issue and he’s looking for a good fit more so than a good location.

“Distance to me really doesn’t matter,” he continued. “But [being close to OSU] is kind of convenient, though. I’ve got a lot of family and proximity is important, but it isn’t the biggest factor.”
