Ashton Lampkin Impresses in Preseason Debut with Kansas City Chiefs

On Friday night, former Oklahoma State cornerback Ashton Lampkin made his NFL debut.

During the Chiefs’ 27-17 preseason loss to the 49ers, Lampkin recorded three solo tackles including this hit on San Francisco wide receiver DeAndre Carter.

Unfortunately, Lampkin’s biggest play of the night would not count. During the fourth quarter, the rookie appeared to come away clean with a tipped pass and hastily ran into the end zone. He was celebrating a pick-six with teammates and fans inside Arrowhead Stadium when officials called the play back, indicating a dead ball.

Lampkin signed as a free agent with Kansas City along with former Cowboy safety Jordan Sterns. Both seemed to be making hay during the summer but Sterns was cut from the team after missing several practices due to an apparent illness.

But Lampkin is making the most of his opportunity and has three more weeks of practice and three more preseason games to make his case for one of 53 roster spots.

So far, he’s looking good.

The Chiefs’ next preseason game is August 19 at 6:00 p.m. CST against the Cincinnati Bengals.
