Big Board: Top Cornerback Targets for Oklahoma State in 2019

Published

on

Oklahoma State signed a star-studded cornerback class in 2018 led by JayVeon Cardwell and Tanner McCalister, and is off to a fast start in 2019 after landing in-state standout Demarco Jones from Booker T. Washington.

The staff will continue looking to plug holes in 2019 with one or two more recruits before finishing off the class at the position, though. So let’s take a look at the targets on the board.

Previous positions: Running back

As I noted in our previous series, Tamauzia Brown is part of a packaged deal the OSU staff is working that includes star running back Darwin Barlow, Brown’s lesser-heralded teammate. Brown is a two-way high school star but has 14 scholarship offers, most of which are to play corner.

Brown amassed 565 rushing yards and 867 receiving yards last season and was named the District 10-3A-II Offensive MVP as a junior.

Like Brown, Lewis is a two-way star. However, Lewis has a tendency to play on the back end, and could be a target at safety, not cornerback, for Oklahoma State. He’s more of a “get him to commit and we will see where he wants to play” kid that Gundy loves.

Nevertheless, Lewis is a star in waiting. He racked up 1,100 yards receiving on just 48 receptions last season.

Four-star prospect Jeffery Carter is the pipe dream of the 2019 target bunch. A top-150 national recruit, Carter, from Aledo, Texas, could play receiver or cornerback for a bevy of high major schools. Texas A&M, Texas, Alabama, OU, USC are among his biggest offers.

Carter was a first team all district corner last season. However, he narrowed his list to a top 10 this week, and OSU was out.
