Since 2005, Cowboy basketball fans have had to look at a what-could-have been atop their team’s commitment rankings.

Gerald Green committed to Oklahoma State that year before blowing up and skipping college all together to go pro. Yet still, he sat above everyone on OSU’s all-time commitment ranking on 247Sports. Until Wednesday.

In 247Sports’ final 2020 class ranking, Cade Cunningham overtook Evan Mobley for the top spot in the class. Already the top player on a few other outlet’s rankings, Cunningham’s score bumped up from a .9998 to a .9999 to pull him ever-so-slightly ahead of Gerald Green.

Sure, as of now, Cunningham has played just as many games in an OSU uniform as Green did. But sometime in the next year (whenever basketball season gets going) OSU fans will finally have a Cowboy who played on the White Maple floor to boast as their top all-time recruiting get.

Apart from the one outlier (Keith Brumbaugh), that list of nine above is an awesome one to be on.

Green never played in Stillwater, but he has played in 14 NBA seasons. Le’Bryan Nash spent four years in Stillwater and is fourth in scoring in program history. Marcus Smart spent two All-American seasons in Stillwater before starting his now-six-year NBA career.

Byron Eaton spent four years as a Cowboy and is tops in program history in steals and second in assists. Obi Muonelo is in the top 20 in points and rebounds in a career.

James Anderson and Jawun Evans were also All-Americans.

So of that list of some of the all-time greats in OSU’s modern history, Cunningham is thought to be the best at this point.

There is still plenty he has to do to live up to those guys, but this is as exciting of an offseason as OSU has had in a long time.
