NFL Roundup: Chris Carson Starts and Shines in NFL Debut

As the NFL season kicked off this week, several former Cowboys saw action. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

Chris Carson

When the Seattle Seahawks selected Chris Carson towards the end of the final round of the NFL Draft, the chances of him making a roster, much less an impact looked closer to none than slim. But the former Oklahoma State running back worked his tail off (and showcased his freak physical gifts) in preseason camp and exhibitions and seems to have found himself a home in Seattle.

Head coach Pete Carroll has been a fan of Carson‘s from Day 1 and even veteran wide receiver Doug Baldwin had some high praise for the rookie during camp. And the story gets better. When the Seahawks opened their season at Lambeau Field on Sunday, Carson was the starter ahead of Eddie Lacy and a slew of other running backs on the roster.

The moment wasn’t too big for the rookie either. He led Seattle with six carries and his 39 yards were second only to quarterback Russell Wilson (40 rushing yards).

The Seahawk offense struggled to get going all afternoon but Carson was one of the few bright spots including this 30-yard run.

The Seahawks welcome the San Francisco 49ers in a Week 2 matchup on September 17.

Lane Taylor

Across the field from Carson, Taylor and his Packers got the in W in Lambeau but had to deal with an aggressive Seattle defense that bullied his line for four sacks and just 84 rushing yards allowed on just 3.0 yards per carry.

It was a pretty ugly game offensively for both teams but the Packers got enough from chunk yardage behind their future Hall-of-Famer, Aaron Rogers.

Taylor just signed a 3-year, $16.5 million deal earlier this month.

Dez Bryant

The Cowboys welcomed an NFC East rival sans its best player in the season opener. Without Odell Beckham Jr., the Giants’ offense sputtered for big chunks of the game.

On the other side, Dallas was able to spread the ball around with six different receivers making a catch. Bryant only got two catches but had the game’s longest, this 35-yard haul. He finished with 43 yards.

Meanwhile, Dan Bailey made all four of his field goal attempts for Dallas and singlehandedly outscored the New York football Giants on the night.

Emmanuel Ogbah

Ogbah began his second season as a full-time starter on Cleveland’s rebuilding defense. He didn’t get a sack in Week 1 but he did get a chance to send Ben Roethlisberger to the turf.

Vincent Taylor

Taylor will have to wait another week to see his first NFL action. The Miami Dolphins’ game against Tampa Bay was postponed due to Hurricane Irma. Taylor and the Dolphins will head to Los Angeles to face the Chargers on September 17.

Russell Okung

The former Oklahoma State tackle will head back to Denver where he spent last season with his new team. The Chargers face the Broncos on Monday night football.
