Class of 2018 Small Forward Talks OSU Interest, Recruiting
Mike Boynton hasn’t landed a commitment in the Class of 2018 yet, but with the Cowboys trending for four-star center David McCormack, momentum on the recruiting trail appears to be gaining steam.
That momentum includes an increased interest from three-star Midlothian (Texas) small forward target Kaden Archie. The 6-foot-6 prospect is liking what Boynton is doing with the Pokes, and has been hearing from him since he was an assistant under Underwood.
“Coach Boynton, him and my head coach have a really good relationship,” Archie told 247Sports. “When he was an assistant coach, he came to my school three or four times. He definitely liked my game and he was recruiting me pretty hard before he became the head coach at Oklahoma State.”
Boynton has emphasized that his staff will target length on the perimeter, saying recently: “We like longer, athletic guards. And we always want to have rim protection.” Archie certainly fits that bill.
So what has been OSU’s message in recruiting him?
“They think I’m a really good fit for the system. They like how I defend the ball and bring it down the court. They think I can come in and play right away also.”
As a junior last season, Archie averaged 18.7 points, 5 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 34 games for Midlothian.
With his breakout year in the rearview, he’s now shuffling between offers from Texas, LSU, Purdue, Illinois, Wichita State, TCU, and SMU as well as recent interest from North Carolina and Louisville.
