Class of 2019 QB Recruit Grant Gunnell Commits to Arizona

Class of 2019 quarterback prospect Grant Gunnell ended weeks-long speculation that he was leaning towards the Arizona Wildcats by announcing on Wednesday his commitment to Kevin Sumlin’s program over the likes of Ohio State, Oklahoma State, UCLA and others.

Gunnell had once been considered a heavy Oklahoma State lean but he hit pause on a planned visit for the spring game, and things never quite recovered from there. Instead, he’ll join Sumlin for a second time — the first being when he originally committed to him when he was head coach at Texas A&M.

Oklahoma State and Gunnell had all but fallen off in recent weeks, so to see him commit elsewhere isn’t surprising. In fact, Oklahoma State has been working contingency plans for weeks, and may have found its guy for 2019 in new offer Brendan Costello, who visited campus this weekend.

Costello is planning a return trip to Stillwater soon with his mother, according to 247Sports, and it could be a commitment trip after seeing what he had to say about his time on campus this past weekend and his connection with the coaches.

Commitments are non-binding verbal agreements, so Gunnell isn’t officially off the radar. But unlike his previous commitment to the Aggies, this one is likely to stick so OSU probably won’t be able to position itself as the rebound school for a second time with him.
