Closer Look: New White-Black-White Football Uniform

Our old pal Chris Knox is back at it. After OSU released its slick new uniforms for the 2016 season, I asked Knox if he could do some very specific mock-ups for Carson, Southwell and me to break down. Here’s the first one.

Carson

This is the updated 2013 Baylor Shellacking combo (aka the Clint Chelf Game), and it’s one of the best home looks. The black jerseys will look different than the others since the bandana linings are the same color. The bandana pops more on white and orange jerseys, but it still stands out enough on the black top.

Southwell

This isn’t too dissimilar from the previous uniforms, which will be a theme, but it looks clean.

This will again be one of the best home combos that says, “we mean business.” It’s just a mean, clean look.
I actually like that the bandana won’t pop as much on the black. It’s still visible, but your eyes are naturally drawn toward the orange numbers. The reflective outline will make sure of that. There’s potential to put the paisley pattern in the helmet stripe, but there’s no indication that there are plans to do so. Either way, this is easily a top three home combo.

I like the term “mean and clean.” Our defensive backs should adopt that. I like this combination as well although I think I’m going to miss the color on the pants. It’s an all right trade for the “COWBOYS” down the leg as well as the bandana print to go with the M&C look, but it still feels a little naked.

I maintain one of the best things about these new threads is that you can wear so many different helmets with them. Both the brand and Crazy Pete look solid (as you can see from the above photos), and you could throw in a throwback or a throw forward (?) and it would work just as well.
