Cowgirl Hoops: Jadyn Wooten, Achol Akot Entering Transfer Portal

Two big pieces to the Cowgirls’ success this past season are portal bound.

Achol Akot and Jadyn Wooten made it known Friday that they’ll enter their names into the transfer portal when it opens April 6. Wooten and Akot were the Cowgirls’ second- and third-leading scorers, respectively, trailing only senior Micah Gray.

Akot

This past season was Akot’s first in a Cowgirl uniform, having spent the previous two years at UCF. This was the best season of her career to date.

Listed at 6-foot-1, Akot could guard pretty much any position on the floor. She averaged 12.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals a game.

She seemed to keep getting better as the season went along. Akot was particularly impactful in the Cowgirls’ two NCAA Tournament games, where she averaged 25.5 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. She had a 28-point, 10-rebound double-double in OSU’s first-round win against Princeton.

Wooten

A sophomore point guard from Kansas, Wooten acted as the Cowgirls’ sixth man this past season, playing in 33 games without a start but finishing as OSU’s No. 2 scorer.

She averaged 12.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists a contest.

Wooten is a maestro of the midrange, scoring 318 of her 423 season points on 2-point shots while hitting just a dozen 3-pointers.

Wooten was consistent throughout the season, scoring in double figures 25 times. She scored 18 points in each of OSU’s NCAA Tournament games and had 10 assists against Princeton.

As a true freshman for the Cowgirls last season, Wooten averaged 6.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest.

The Cowgirls and the Portal

These are portal entries Nos. 4 and 5 since the end of OSU’s season but are by far the most significant in terms of contributions this past season.

Akot and Wooten join Macey Huard, Favour Onoh and Faith Acker as portal entrants.

Huard missed all of this past season with an injury after averaging 6.4 points on 32% 3-point shooting last season.

Onoh played in five games for OSU this year, her first with the program. She totaled two points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes on the floor.

Acker took part in 13 games this past season, scoring 34 points and bringing in 21 rebounds in 62 total minutes. Acker spent the past two seasons at Tarleton State, where she averaged 9.1 points and 6.1 rebounds a game.
