College Man

Mike Gundy predicted that his star running back would be hanging around Stillwater for a while – a year longer than NFL teams would prefer.

“(Justice Hill) is extremely cerebral,” Gundy said. “He comes from a home where they have good, salt-of-the-earth, blue-collar values. They believe in community and doing things the right way. Not that leaving early (is wrong).

“I just won’t be shocked if he’s here to finish his degree and finish playing college football, and then have a 10-year career in the NFL.” [TulsaWorld]

Wouldn’t that be one heck of a deal for the orange-and-black? It would take some sort of down year (in my opinion) to convince Hill to stay.

Find and Seek

Mike Gundy made a few clever new hires this offseason – on top of a savvy defensive coordinator and a brilliant offensive analyst.

In addition to increasing his total number of team analysts from two to five, OSU coach Mike Gundy also added four assistants who are described as prospect analysts.

With the new early signing period, and the rule change that allows recruits to make official visits to campuses during the spring, the prospect analysts — whose primary job it is to filter through the game tape of potential recruits — have been busy since arriving over the winter.

“There are so many things changing in recruiting, that I don’t know that anybody across the country knows what to expect,” Gundy said. “I know that it’s happening faster now than ever, and we feel we have to have a considerable amount of manpower to keep up.”

Matt Clements, Josh Gonzalez, Jordan Martin and Bradley Thomas are the Cowboys’ first group of prospect analysts. They are mostly out of the mold of the type of young coaches who would fill graduate assistant or quality control positions on the staff. [NewsOK]

For a football program so dependant on identifying and developing talent, “prospect analysts” sound like a brilliant idea.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Mike Gundy said he wouldn’t be shocked if the new offensive line isn’t better than last years’….ESPN/FPI says Big 12 is a longshot for CFP this fall….What to know about college basketball coaching carousel….Urban Meyer set to make $7m this year….This weekend’s baseball series against K-State was pushed back a day….Cowgirl Softballs swept a doubleheader in Lawrence yesterday

I’ll hear most any argument about OSU football recruiting but this doesn’t look like freshman o-linemen of old.

The seven years war of the underclassmen.

Sports are the best – sometimes.
