Poachers Beware
Mike Gundy alluded to some late night poaching being attempted before the early signing day – and details are coming out on who was the conspiring poacher and the identity of a poachee is revealed.
Gundy hinted there was some poaching on other players and he specifically cited Sachse, Texas defensive end Tyler Lacy. The 6-4, 239 Lacy had 60 tackles with 11 tackles for loss and six sacks this season. It was the University of Texas that tried to poach Lacy.
“Yes, Texas called him last night and offered a scholarship,” explained an Oklahoma State coach later in the day. “They’ve been jumping a number of defensive linemen late.” [GoPokes $]
There you have it: a late night raid from south of the Oklahoma border. It also mentions that Arkansas was going after the two late flips the Pokes pulled but no dice.
Can’t Go Around It
The Pokes lone running back commit sounds like the perfect “thunder” back to compliment the lighter change of pace backs in Stillwater (a la JD King).
(Jahmyl Jeter) is a big back….Gundy believes he could be in the 220-230 pound range during his Oklahoma State career. When you watch him on tape he is a one cut and go guy that has no problem running over defenders when he needs to. Jeter was an early commit that also stayed very loyal.
He had an injury during the season, later in the season and missed the playoffs, but has already been cleared and is playing basketball. He is a wing player for Brennan. He has excellent hands and I see him as a complementary back with power to a Justice Hill or Chuba Hubbard. [GoPokes $]
If one of Jeter or King could develop into that punishing Jeremy Smith/Des Roland/Chris Carson-style back, I’ll take whatever odds you give me that Gundy forces Yurcich’s hand and Stillwater turns into Georgia Tech’s triple-option west.
