As SB Nation starts to break down their best games of 2017, OSU is responsible for three of sixty spots revealed so far: Texas game at No. 83, Iowa State game at No. 84, and the Texas Tech gem at No. 62.

62. Sept. 30: Oklahoma State 41, Texas Tech 34
This almost wasn’t a game. Oklahoma State led 7-0 and was driving for another score when Damarcus Fields stepped in front of a Mason Rudolph pass and took it 95 yards. Considering OSU would build a 31-17 lead, that loomed large. It could have been 38-10.

Desmond Nisby’s short touchdown run for Tech made it 34-34 in the fourth. Then, not only did Mike Gundy commit a cardinal sin (kicking an 18-yard field goal instead of going for a touchdown), Matt Ammendola missed an 18-yard field goal. OSU’s defense stiffened, and Rudolph’s 16-yard scramble with 72 seconds left gave the Pokes the win despite themselves. [SB Nation]

For as many close endings that didn’t break OSU’s way (TCU, K-State, Bedlam), it was a lot of fun when the ball bounced the other way like that night in Lubbock.

Bedlam Bad Omens

The Cowboys have run into a bit of trouble with opposing guards this year – not an ideal trend given the way the schedule is breaking.

On Jan. 6, in a game Oklahoma State won, Iowa State’s Donovan Jackson scored a career-high 30 points.

Four days later, at Kansas State, Barry Brown scored a career-high 38.

On Monday, it was Baylor’s Manu Lecomte, who woke up from a dreadful shooting stretch to knock down seven 3s as part of a career-high 30-point night. It’s the third time in four games an opposing guard has reached 30 points and the fourth time this season (Wichita State’s Landry Shamet was the other).

This is not the way you want to be trending heading into a game against Trae Young. [TulsaWorld]

The number to beat for Trae Young is 43 (against TCU and Oregon) – it’s hard to imagine the Pokes hanging around if Young gets close to the half-century mark.

OSU and NCAA Notes

NCAA is tabling conversation on limiting football staff sizes….What if UCF had made the Playoff?….Really good thought about the Washington State tragedy from Tuesday night….Six new members added to the Playoff Committee….Joe DeForest is out at Kansas (if you’re looking for a special teams guy)

This would be insane. Does FCS and Group of Five turn into a farm system?

It’s a bit irrational but is it too much to ask that someone would draft these two together?

Career for Charlie, Jr: Make half of as much coaching as your dad did being paid NOT to coach.

OSU Baseball really has some incredible gear.
