Mason vs. Baker

Berry Tramel weighs in on Baker vs. Mason.

I think Mayfield is the better college quarterback, because of his mobility. He makes so many plays with his legs, that puts a tremendous pressure on defenses. Rudolph is an excellent quarterback, too, but I think his advantage over Mayfield is more pro-oriented. [NewsOK]

Not exactly a hot take – most wide receivers can get open if a quarterback gives them a half day to get that way. Pro teams will salivate at Mason’s size and ability to make nearly all the throws.

Pete Brings It Home

Dallas SportsDay surveyed Big 12 players at media days and Pistol Pete brings home the gold.

Who has the best mascot in the Big 12?
You go, Pistol Pete. The Oklahoma State Cowboy swept voting with eight votes, good for a third of respondents. TCU’s Horned Frog and the West Virginia Mountaineer each received five votes, followed by the Longhorns at four. Kansas State’s Wildcat received three. [SportsDay]

Another fun note from the survey: punter Zach Sinor was the only Cowboy receiving a vote for best smack talker.

Gundy on Life

Mayor Gundy has some thoughts on life as he nears 50.

“You get to a point where you have to learn to say, ‘OK, when am I going to start enjoying everyday life?’” Gundy said in an intimate interview returning home from ESPN. “As you get older, you start to realize, if you work all your life to a certain age and never enjoyed it, next thing they’re pushing you around in a wheelchair and you missed out on all those years.

“We’ve had a lot of success. We should be enjoying it.” [NewsOK]

So there you have it, Gundy’s Ferris Bueller moment.
