Home on the Range
Offensive line coach Josh Henson found something rare for college football coaches.
“You only get so many chances in this business to coach at home,” he said. “One of the big things here was Coach Gundy’s stability and the program’s stability.
“I thought if I could last five or six years at Oklahoma State, my two children would have only gone to school in Columbia, Missouri, and Stillwater. In this business, that’s a blessing. That was probably bigger than anything else fans might think.” [NewsOK]
So Gundy’s stability and the ability to keep the family in the same town through school years? What a deal. How confident was Gundy about getting his rolling deal when he landed Henson in February?

Confident Yet Focused
When confronted, Gundy would confess his concerns about the secondary.
I don’t know if I’m really concerned about a lot. I think that a couple of things that need to happen at a quicker pace than what we are all accustomed to is our secondary with some young players that are very athletic but may not have a lot of experience. You go back to trying to design a practice format that allows us to get them prepared as possible knowing that game experience is the only thing that can do that as the season moves on.
We are playing at team in Tulsa that won 10 games last year and traditionally has been explosive on offense the first shot out of the bag. You are always concerned about that. Then we have to be ready to play on the road soon after, so not great concerns but just the typical coaches concerns for the early part of the season. [GoPokes $]
A developing secondary against a (recently) strong passing game will be a great checkpoint for the Cowboys.
