Coach Ranks
Athlon has Mike Gundy just outside the top ten when ranking college football’s head coaches.
11. Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State
Is Gundy the nation’s most underrated coach? He’s quietly won 104 games – the most in program history by a head coach – since taking over for Les Miles in 2005. Oklahoma State has only one losing record under Gundy… [Athlon Sports]
“Most underrated coach” is a fascinating title for Gundy. Some things flag a coach as a top guy: winning big games, signing top ten classes, coaching a blue blood. Gundy wins everything up to the big game and signs top 30 classes at a school oft overshadowed by a nearby blue blood. He’s got all the makings of underrated.
(Don’t) Fear the Unknown
Robert Allen found some key details about the Cowboys’ second opponent this fall, the South Alabama Jaguars.
Cornerback looks to be a problem for South Alabama as they have lost expected starter Jalen Thompson for this season due to academics and their other expected starting corner, Bobby Flott is coming off of knee surgery from last season. [GoPokes $]
Going to Mobile, Alabama on a Friday night feels like shades of Troy in 2007 but Gundy is in his 13th year (not third year) and the talent level is completely different. And apparently, college football’s most dominant receiver core will be going against a group of inexperienced corners.

Interesting to see how Mason playing with these dudes will play into his Heisman candidacy.
You may not find an offensive skill trio better than Mason Rudolph, Justice Hill and James Washington this year.#MA2ON #okstate #GoPokes pic.twitter.com/6gIXC7UO78
