Nothing But Compelling
Yahoo Sports ranked the Cowboys trip to Pittsburgh one of the top ten non-conference matchups of the season.
10. Oklahoma State at Pittsburgh – Sept. 16 (Week 3): Oklahoma State is getting a lot of summer buzz as a potential sleeper candidate to make the College Football Playoff. The Cowboys’ trip north to Pittsburgh presents the biggest test of their non-conference slate.
Last year, the teams played a ridiculous game in Stillwater, combining for 1,167 yards of offense in what ended up being a 45-38 Oklahoma State win. The Cowboys are loaded once again on offense and Pitt will likely roll out USC transfer Max Browne as its starting quarterback. Buckle up. [Yahoo Sports]
The Panthers are an interesting defensively-gifted matchup for the Pokes and while neither is a brand name, it’s an objectively compelling game to play back from 2016.
Man In Waiting
The newest set of football-playing twins are on campus and it appears to be clearing up where Tracin (the high school quarterback) will be playing in Stillwater.
(Tracin) will start out at quarterback, although athletically he could play a number of positions and be successful. Being at quarterback with Mason Rudolph playing his senior season and lots of traffic ahead of him on the depth chart keeps any sense of urgency out of the picture. [GoPokes $]
Add another solid, productive athlete (ran a 4.7-40 yard dash upon arrival) to the quarterback room. Worst case scenario: it’s a good place to learn the offense in a room with Mason and Yurcich.
