Giving Spirit

Something sticks out and distinguishes Gundy from the majority of mercenaries who could be sitting in his chair.

Gundy likely could have negotiated for more money, but what he did that I honestly think the coach is most proud of is that he got every member of his staff and support staff a salary that puts them in the middle to upper half of the Big 12 – Conference. [GoPokes – $]

Not that all head coaches are money-hungry weasels but there’s some action there that backs up his rhetoric: that Oklahoma State is a special place, that it’s home and that it’s his Yankees job. It’s implies belief in what he’s saying.

Wised Up

Holder and Co. came out and gave the (reasonable) people what they were looking for: a paid and happy Gundy.

This is major dough being dished out by Oklahoma State and proves its commitment to football and realizes the importance of Gundy to the program.

Sometimes it seems that the powers-that-be in Stillwater really believe they could plug in a handful of coaches into the top job and still have Gundy’s success. That’s always been incredibly foolish. [Heartland College Sports]

Giving Gundy top-15 money is hardly a risk when you have 12 years of history. And to the article’s point – who really wanted to risk and see if Gundy isn’t the magic 10-win ingredient?

OSU and NCAA Notes

OSU’s right tackle stalwart was voted “Most Likely to Coach” on the team….Chris Carson in the running for the Seattle RB job….Four Cowboy golfers earned Golfweek All-American status….Gundy and Co. could see their recruiting take off with the extension and top-ten team for 2017

Here’s a sentimental group to follow today at the Open.

The honors keep piling up for an impressive Poke.

Here’s a lukewarm take for ya.

Yes and amen – is baseball the only collateral damage? I’ll agree that boredom would be a casualty.
