Long Term Contender
ESPN ranked football programs by who is most likely to compete with Alabama for supremacy. The Cowboys are in the top 15.
13. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Mike Gundy has molded Oklahoma State into the Big 12’s version of Stanford and Wisconsin. The Pokes have averaged 9.6 wins since 2008 under Gundy, who just signed a five-year contract extension and should remain through the evaluation period. [ESPN Insider $]
They talk more about how a more clear quarterback succession plan would be reassuring but this year’s offense is just too much to ignore.
This feels like a power ranking of sorts and to see the Pokes ahead of the likes of Georgia, Auburn, Florida, and Texas is a fun reality.
 Bedlam to Remember
How long will it be before people can openly acknowledge that Bedlam is the most meaningful and impactful rivalry in the Big 12? One site already ranked it the top Big 12 game of 2017.
#1: Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma
Date: Saturday, November 4th
Location: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
They’ve been consistently the best two teams in the Big 12 over the past several seasons. This game has decided the conference champion the past two years. With these two teams likely to be 1-2 in the official Big 12 coaches picks before the season, it’s possible this could end up as a rematch in Dallas in early December. [Heartland College Sports]
While they haven’t been the closest games (or most entertaining) over the past couple of years, it’s undeniable that as the regular de-facto Big 12 title game – they’re a big deal.
