Daily Bullets (Mar. 23): That Josh Stewart Return, Buy or Sell Your 2020 Cowboy Football Stock?

Published

Happy Monday – I hope you’re enjoying wearing athleisure to work in at home, let’s make that glass half-full.

Bullets Rundown

• March Madness – the rare unifying event
• Big Country burned down all the frontcourts
• Buy or sell your 8-5 stock?

OSU Bullets

• Tramel has an excellent pulse on the disappointment college sports fans are processing this March.

…I love the NCAA Tournament’s first round the most. Sixteen games a day. All now televised, four at a time on channels ranging from CBS to TruTV. Guaranteed drama. Guaranteed intrigue. Cascading magic moments.

Even on the rare years when neither OU nor OSU makes the 68-team bracket, there’s a consolation prize. I get to stay home and watch all the games. [NewsOK $$$]

In a pretty strongly segmented country, few things unite the audience like the Big Dance.

• This is a fun March Madness memory – Big Country decimating frontlines of NBA players en route to the Final Four.

Bryant Reeves had 24 points and 10 rebounds as OSU beat Massachusetts 68-54 to win the NCAA East Regional and complete a sweep of future NBA big men Malik Rose (Drexel), Antonio McDyess (Alabama), Tim Duncan (Wake Forest) and Marcus Camby (UMass). OSU lost to UCLA in the Final Four. [NewsOK $$$]

• If you were evaluating Cowboy Football as a short-term investment (the 2020 season assuming it happens) – would you buy or sell the stock after an 8-5 finish in 2019?

BUY — 8-4 is not an easy record to amass in the Big 12, but this could be the Cowboys’ year. Few teams return more than Oklahoma State and Mike Gundy is a proven coach.

OKSU should be an easy 3-0 in the non-conference and it is not outlandish to think that RB Chubba Hubbard and the Cowboys could go 7-2 in the league for a 10-2 regular season, is it? Count me in as a buyer. [247 Sports]

Assuming the Sooners in Norman aren’t a high probability of a win, you can only lose one of the rest and have a good chance of making it to Arlington. I’m buying.

• Here’s a fun piece catching up with Phil Forte

OU running back Trey Sermon has landed at Ohio State via grad transfer (thank goodness he’s gone)

• See how the Pokes did in the Virtual NCAA Wrestling tournament

• Gosh, I love this photo – need it framed for the home office.

Non-OSU Bullets

Berry Tramel on social distancing is fantastic
• You can enroll in Yale’s most popular course for free
• This Atlantic piece on Sufjan Stevens and Christian music was thought-provoking
